Project Spotlight

ImageProject Title:
Gunderson High's "Save-A-Lot" Project

Location:
San Jose, California

Description:
The Corps Team at Gunderson High School in San Jose, CA has undertaken project "Save-A-Lot". The 22 students identified several issues facing the Alma Community: empty lots, the presence of criminal activity, littering, loitering, and community resentment. The Corps Team set out on a mission to build a foundation in order for the Alma Community to take a step towards achieving ownership of beautifying and improving their neighborhoods. The team's ability to mobilize others around change was evidenced by their success in meeting with community groups and city council members. A sub-committee has been formed as a result of the Corps Team's actions and students will lead the renovation efforts.
